I don't see how you can respect the integrity of the upper trendline, but not respect the integrity of the lower line; it's a little too arbitrary. Here's my take on the "wedge":

The COMPX also formed a steeper channel within a channel.

A pattern is either a reaction against or a reversal of the previous trend; you've got to see what forms within that pattern, IMHO, beginning at the high point in an uptrend or a low point in a downtrend, as in this case. You've got to begin marking the pattern at the beginning of the pattern, and see what forms after that starting point.
