In history, there were 9 countries who made China suffer dearly. But not that many can claim the opposite. Nationalism is running dangerous high because China first tastes a super power after a thousand years. (Ask a Packers' fun when they won superbowl after thirty years!)However, in my opinion, they are more skilled in suppression of chinese rather than aggression. Anyway, I am not worried about China-US relationship for simple reasons. 1. All the families of the leadership including the military are beneficiary of a booming economy which substantially depends on trading with the US. 2. Business usually comes first for Mr. Bush. He needs to please those invested in defense industry which sells billions of arms to Taiwan. However, it will be very temperary because China's threat to Taiwan is more to do for internal reasons. China is quite divided economically north and south. The northerners are in very harsh situations because they were the economic center with heavy and defense industries in the past. But the current economic boom benefits them the least with unemployment running high. One of the provincial capital is like Chicago in the 30s. The provincial government officials found are connected with gangs. Luckily, Taiwan faces the part of China which benefits the most from the economical boom which is also substantially benefited from taiwanese money. As long as no declaration of independence, China will not fight with Taiwan. 3. Lately, China named the new embassador to the US. Who had his first assignment in China's foreign ministry was to guide a two week tour for the elder Bush and has been a family friends to the Bushes ever since. In return, Bush nominated the new embassador to China. Who is a person can "pick up a phone and dial Bush directly". No surprise, he also has done business for many years in Hongkong. The elder Bush told leaving chinese embassador that "nobody knows my son than I do". laodeng
