Yes, indeed, in the Peanut Gallery. One of my brothers went on the local Bozo the Clown show. Bozo was, at that time, played by Willard Scott, who eventually moved to the Today Show.

When I was about 12 or so, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans showed up for an opening of one of their fast food restaurants. My mother took us up to see them. I had never been a big fan, but somehow it was still neat to see them.

When I was growing up, I used to like to watch College Bowl and It's Academic. When I was a sophomore in high school, I got to be on It's Academic (it is a franchise in various cities, and pits three teams at a time against one another). Our team won, and moved to the semi- finals. Unfortunately, the next round we faced a team that had really trained. We were beating them, but then we hit the "lightening round", where you compete to buzz in. They were constantly beating us on the buzzer. The next year, I was captain of the team, and it was our bad luck to face the same team, and again, lose on the buzzer round. Anyway, for months thereafter, people I had never met recognized me from It's Academic. I had never imagined it was so widely watched, but I guess having one's own school on was an incentive......
