I don't think taxpayer money should be spent providing educational assistance to foreigners. I wonder about the value of foreign aid. Twelve of the 14 years I spent overseas were connected to such aid but I was not a direct U.S. government hire. I find it natural that one would have deep feelings for the land of ones birth. One can miss relatives, customs and food. One can resent the superior attitue of many Americans that have never lived anywhere else and who may appear to be uneducated about the rest of the world. A foreigner, living here, set me straight on this, when I was praising foreign newspapers. He said, "we Argentinians know everything about the rest of the world. But we can do nothing to improve our own countries. You Americans know nothing but are deeply involved in your schools and local governments. Which is more important? "

My point is Boyapati's views agree with those of many other Americans. It is also not clear that immigrants are taking advantage of the U.S. Those I know are making a real contribution.

Mr Snake Eyes,
I have proclaimed my allegiance to India of which I am currently a citizen. Anything wrong with that? I am a permanent resident of USA and I do plan to become American Citizen. Do question my allegiance at that time. In case of conflict between US and India, my allegiance will be put to ultimate test and that will be the time I will decide one way or the other. Better yet, I will use my dual background to promote peace between the two countries (in whatever small way I can). But I do not see the conflict happening anytime.
I have never sought handouts. I came for higher education in this country and spent my Indian Rupees to attain the education. It is ridiculous for you to suggest that I came here to take advantages of wealth and freedoms. I have taken advantages of the opportunities that this country had to offer me as an immigrant and so far I have put to good use the freedoms that you talk about. Kindly desist from misinformation about me or my views.
BTW: Coming from a country that cherishes democracy and it's institutions, freedom is not entirely a strange concept. I just wish institutions were more robust.

I don't have a problem with immigrants....I have a problem with immigrants that come to this country to take advantage of the opportunities and Government handouts only to have their allegiance pledged to the country from which they came..... Mr. Boyapati is one that has proclaimed his allegiance to India while coming to America to get educated (no doubt with U.S. assistance) and to take advantage of our freedoms and wealth.....You don't have a problem with that?
