It is easier to trade when the technical analysis reinforces the fundamental analysis, up or down. Greenspan just reminded us that the fundamentals for the near term aren't going to be good. Using "oversold" as a basis to buy when fundamentals are getting worse isn't working very well today.

Here is a key line in the Greenspan testimony: "The exceptional weakness so evident in a number of economic indicators toward the end of last year (perhaps in part the consequence of adverse weather) apparently did not continue in January." This line suggests that Greenspan is not as concerned about the economy as he was a few weeks back. That doesn't mean there won't be additional easing, but the Fed may not be as aggressive as the market had hoped.
