I addressed it a couple of times on the Piffer OT thread.

And the assumption that with Napster going away that this would eliminate this particular form of traffice is not seeing a clear picture. One of the discussions that was had on the POT thread in regards to Napster was that the reason that there was so much concern about it in the industry, wasn't really from the artists, but from the labels. The cost savings and effects on the supply chain for music that is distributed on the internet is potentially huge. Right now, there is no way to control distribution on the internet so the labels are resisting it. Once the controls are put in place, I would expect physical retail distribution houses to all but disappear since instead of buying the physical CD, you would download the music files to your computer and then burn your own CD. This will of course mean that ALL distribution of music will be done on the internet eventually, not just people swapping files.

-Then you have telephony services over the internet (from your home or work) and you are charged a flat rate instead of a usage charge.
-how about instead of going to blockbuster, you download the video over your high speed connection to your home.
-Or when you want to take a college course at a university that is 250 miles away and they fortunately have distance learning capabilities.
-Or interactive video games with your buddies who live in NYC, Tokyo and Sydney.
-Or you want to talk to your son and you want to see his face but he lives 1000 miles away, so you call him on a realtime videoconferencing connection.
