REAL reason for selloff: Fed drains $3.1 bln reserves through matched sales

Tuesday February 13, 11:30 am Eastern Time

NEW YORK, Feb 13 - The Federal Reserve said on Tuesday it drained $3.100 billion in temporary reserves from the banking system through overnight matched sale-purchases.

At the time of the operation, federal funds were trading at 5-1/2 percent, the Fed's target for the rate.

Sold my CSCO this morning near the top. Glad I took that small loss. It really dived at the end of the day. Wish I had sold a few more. Just missed on a few more sell orders.

Greenie didn't help us though it's ironic that by saying "we're not in a recession" that is bad news. Go figure. So long-term tech buyers will bargain-hunt and traders will sell or short though painfully near whatever the bottom is? Example ERICY I see is in the mid 9's now. A bearish analysis recently claimed it was only worth 9-10 a share. Well there it is, down from 12 1/2. Meanwhile old-fashioned value stocks are getting a wee bit pricey. So are techs turning into the best values? Amazing.

Sure hope Greenie doesn't wait until March to cut again. I disagree with him that we're not in a recession. At least it's a short-term one, and a sharp one at that. He ought to be cutting more agressively and the sooner the better.

My VZ continues to hold strong. Baby Bells are a real safe haven. And LU, jeepers, starting to look like a bargain takeover target. Wish someone would. You guys were right, my 14 3/4 "bargain" was no bargain afterall. At least not this week.
