The chatter in itself is truly stupid, but it's the dogma that is the point, I think. It's akin to other sayings such as:

"Don't fight the tape."
"Don't get married to a stock."

All these sayings exist to address the fact that most people let their egos get in the way, because they fear being wrong - and that makes them hang on even longer, much to the detriment of their personal growth, not to mention bank account.

This is also why they say that it is better to be a good trader rather than a good analyst.
