given the recent {hopefully market dropping opportunity on BRCD} this is a very timely question to investigate.

I'm glad somebody posed this question. Not about BRCD, just that somebody pointed out that this market dropping makes it very timely (really a bit late) to be looking at Gs&Ks&candidates. A shopping opportunity.

I'd be much more enthusiastic about some of these bargains becoming available if I didn't own them already. But window shopping would be OK if somebody else might buy.

tink, BRCD was first to market with switching fabric. The fc standards were so poor that multi-vendor interoperability for fc switching couldn't happen, so BRCD switches are proprietary, only working with other BRCD switches. BRCD was very aggressive in their marketing. They formed alliances with storage product makers early. They formed an alliance with CSCO for a CSCO based IP to FC interface board/software.

Result=90% market share.

I am terribly naive in the fiber-channel world, but given the recent {hopefully market dropping opportunity on BRCD} this is a very timely question to investigate.

I vote with Pirah. It is a very timely question and one that should be applied to other GC'c. If you liked rmbs,sndk,wind,brcm,ntap,sebl and others 4 or 5 months ago, ya gotta love um now.
