Try going to run / type in "hwinfo/ui" (without quotes) and when your Hardware Info Utility comes up (give it a few seconds) go to view / check Devices with problems and see if you have any devices in red or blue. This may give you some possible leads. I have found two problems here that did not show in Device Manager.

Brian ...

It sounds to me as if there is a heat problem with the machine ...
I'm a tad brain dead right now for I can't recall where in the CMOS/BIOS settings there is listed the temp, CPU temp, fan speed, etc ...but I'll wager that your problem is related to heat.

You can add an additional fan inside the case without much difficulty ..
you can make sure the wide cables aren't restricting air flow ...
you can blow out any accumulated dust ...
and
here is a thing for which to look that can sneak up on one sometimes, especially when adding cooling ..

make sure all fans are blowing in the SAME direction ...
at times the power supply fan will be blowing into the case, and a case fan will be also blowing into the case ...
one of them needs to exhaust to make for efficient air flow.

good luck

btw ..
I'm the SgtAtArms for one of our three local Rotary clubs and last week part of my duties was to raise some money to pay a teacher in a Russian orphanage.
Last year, the Rotary clubs in my district collected $2700 which pays the salary for a high school teacher in an orphanage .... can't remember where it was in Georgia ... and this year our goal is to pay for two ...
the dist gov was at the meeting and the money I gathered up was triple our quota and so we may pay for three this next year ...

One fact with which I was impressed was that every single graduate from the school got a job within two weeks of entering the job market .... as the education level isn't too high in the area .....

thought you'd enjoy that, even if my tip does you no good.
