DMA--Yeah, I'd have to agree with you that Bradley, Gephardt, and Gore all moved to the left from their days in the 80's. I've always wondered whether that's because their actual views moved that direction, or whether it was because they realized that to get the Democratic nomination for President it is much harder to do as a centrist than as a liberal (just as the reverse is true in the Republican Party).

I loved Gore's move to populism at the Democratic convention (and afterwards), but I never really knew whether he truly believed it or not, because God knows he hadn't exactly been espousing it for very damn long. Still, I found it refreshing, and was disappointed that he didn't win to find out whether he believed it or not (I'm betting that it was mostly a convenience, and more a reflection of his populist pollster than some fervently-held belief. Welcome to politics, huh?....).
