I haven't in any post here indicated what I think is the source of the inherent aspects of individual morality that I believe people have, so in addressing this to me you're assuming a position I've never taken. I don't know where it comes from, and haven't thought about that issue yet.

The basic question was whether humans share any absolute moral imperatives, or whether all ethics are situational, so that any behivior could be seen by some society or other as morally acceptable.

You seem to have come down on the first side, which is where I am. Where it all comes from is a whole different issue, but not one I'm prepared to get into this late in the evening when I have to work on taxes.
