BTW, Cosmic,

You posted here, or elsewhere, that drivers ought to be given their impairment tests the same way they were driving--with coffee, popcorn and all that. I disagree! I would still rather have my gall bladder removed by a surgeon eating a liverwurst sandwich and reciting Shakes, than by an engineer in perfect health and no distractions. :)

I'm saddened that we, as a country, don't seem to want to try very hard
to fix this problem. Many people think we DID try and failed. The
Great Society was by most measures a total failure. This is where the
government sweeps in and throws around things that sound good at a
large scale with no pilot programs. I think many people assume that is
what I'm proposing.

I understand where you're coming from. I got out of my environment through a full tuition scholarship--national merit plus a local foundation. I haven't yet taken action to repay my debt but it's my highest priority in retirement.

I'm one of those who have soured on government programs to deal with these things. I'd like to discuss your ideas more later.

Karen
