Google has not done an IPO yet, and are touting pre-IPO stock options are part of their compensation package.

google.com

I don't know how Google is going to make money, I do see that some people pay to have their website listed on search pages, but I use Google all day long every day, I love it, but I don't think I'd pay a penny for it if it wasn't free. From time to time I do click on the paid website links - which don't use any photos, drawings, much less java or popups, the links are very discreet.

While I have the floor, I would like to vent a little about websites that have java, music, shockwave, and other bandwidth hogs. Some here complain about cookies. I don't care about cookies because I delete them every day. But I hate hate hate to log onto a site and have my browser freeze because the fricken site has something like java or shockwave. And I use a cable modem!
