Exactly. From Intel's point of view, it gets to impose the standards and everyone else trails along. But as the Rambus debacle has shown, Intel is starting to lose their influence. They rarely solicit input from outside companies anymore, there seem to be no more joint standards like Ethernet coming from Intel anymore.

Beowolf clustesr of Sledgehammers connected with 6.4 Gb/s HyperTransport technology would be killer. I'm sure it would blow Gigabit ethernet interconnectivity away.
