Some may be interested to know most major pc makers this week cut their warrenty programs to ONE year from 3 years and in some cases 3/5 programs.... with small price reductions in a bid to sell more boxes without shrinking the component margins themselves... kind of selling the future for the present....but the consumer isn't getting much for it depending on your point of view. also leading to an increased buyer beware issue, since design need only be reliable for as little as 12 months.....

got new strategies for planned obsolescence and cycle time magnification?? is that their gambit??? junk boxes to calculate junk bonds??? see ya'll back here in a year.

anyone have any info on the historical costs associated with warrenty programs over a 3 year life???

Earlie from Earlie:

Added to shorts in pre-market this A.M.in AMAT, NVLS, and JDSU. I expect them to erode today, but time will tell.

What I am really hoping for is an "in-your-face" opening (in which case, I will add even more) followed by a grind down. There was a bunch of very negative news last night which will take a bit of time to be digested by Wall Street.

Best, Earlie
