EMC, CacheFlow partner to ace NetApp

Looks like NTAP has hit a nerve.

Folks, CacheFlow runs on general purpose operating systems. EMC may be able to wire together some sort of content management/distribution system, but they face the following:

1. CacheFlow product compete with NTAP's WebCache products
2. NTAP's WebManage software, which is the content managment layer, is not functionally replicated in CacheFlow products, I do not believe. If so, then EMC still has to develop this layer of functionality.
3. The NTAP ONTAP OS platform still provides a level of reliabilty, price/performance, and total cost of ownership that EMC cannot address.

I see this EMC move as a validation of NTAP's content management/dist strategy, but not an effective answer to it.
