robert,

mind you -I don't say this with a whole lot of confidence- but I think we have had our day of "max pain" in this sector back in december of last year when a confluence of negative factors -including year end tax loss selling- prevailed in the market. this most recent downtrend in the semi-equipment makers has been characterized by relatively low volume and on some days the sector has completely ignored bad news...My thinking is that some value players have already established some positions in these stocks and they won't be shaken out which will serve as putting a higher "floor" in these stocks. just my 2cents worth.

regards

Bob,
This thread is filled with bearish(short term) bulls(long term). I am just not sure it gets much worse. If your dealership and my financial service/tech sales are already picking up we may be anticipating an extra quarter of bad news that wont in fact materialize which could mean the turn comes now with a lack of response to amat projections plus a rate cut. We shall see what happens in the coming days.
Also I agree with you 100% that the election turned an orderly nasdaq decline into a debacle and what would have been an fair christmas season into a bad one. So rather than pick on bush, greenspan or clinton, maybe we should call this the GORE recession. It would serve him right to be the only loser tarred with this brush. Mike
