Property taxes to soar

+$250/yr? Big deal!

Back in the late 70s, when property values were jumping in California, I was paying $900/yr taxes on a $54,000 home. My mortgage payment, including taxes, was around $450/mo. Then I got a tax bill that set my taxes at $3,600/year beginning the following year. Didn't have to pay up though. Proposition 13 passed that November.
