Scumbria: You are responding to the wrong person. I think Fyo made that remark.

Yes, I made the comment he quoted... but the bit he quoted had nothing much to do with the content of his post. I imagine he just quoted from the wrong msg ;)

<combjelly>: (...) Recently I pointed out that I did some circuit designs in the early '80s using 74cxx and 40xx series parts that used one of the techniques that Rambus later patented. Their only response was I should have applied for a patent then. Which is nonsense. I am not some hotshot logic designer, just a hacker, so if it occurred to me to do that it had to be more than obvious to "someone skilled in the profession". (...)

<Scumbria>: If our favorite company ever tried to enforce that patent, you could contribute your work as prior art to the defense. That would make their patent pretty useless.

<combjelly>: Come on Scumbria, you have a much larger portfolio than I do. I imagine you have done much of what they claimed more than once, in non-memory applications. I admit that I haven't reviewed their patents in toto (or even in Spot), but I didn't see anything particularly innovative or non-obvious. Now some of the stuff they talk about for QRSL might be a little more impressive, but I don't know much about highspeed signaling. Even that may be more derivative than innovative. (...)
