kg4, My point is that he NOW sees a big link between consumer confidence and the stock market, in particular the Nasdaq. He will not take any chances is my feeling. He may be concerned that the market now expects the FED to be less aggressive given his comments...he said no such thing but his worry may be that the market understands it this way.

Maybe it does not happen today but very near is likely if the market stays down.
He is going to target the markets,IMHO.

Even if not today, will investors or short sellers wait to put some of that 2 trillion dollars to work in the market in the face of lower interest rates on the way cutting into money market returns?

Just my hypothesis..you can disagree of course.
and...I am not smoking anything..yet

Interesting day for JDSU:

1. all the bad news is now out, what do the bears have to look forward to?

2. Today is the last day for JDSU/SDLI arbitrage selling pressure

3. Today is the day on the close that index funds must beef up their JDSU holdings by around 1/3 in order to keep in line with the new S&P 500 weighting for the combined JDSU?SDLI.

4. For the market in general, the yield curve has finally become totally "normal" from front to back, meaning there is "positive carry" by borrowing short and lending long, a yield curve associated with bull markets.
