Amat has investors with strong hands. They didnt panic today. But wouldnt it be a rip if 40 in the after market last nite turns out to be the absolute bottom while we all confidently predicted we would be able to buy this in the 30' s over the next few weeks. In that case strong hands would have also prevented us from backing up the truck.

Sam,

The AMAT of 2001 is not the AMAT of 1996. They have increased market share in virtually every category, have entered new markets where room for growth is much easier to get than incremental share gains in established territory, and they have proven that they are the only soup to nust operaion in the industry.

I have been one of the people saying that AMAT now deserves a higher multiple than in past troughs, especially since this is not a true trough given that spending is still happening. This is an inventory correction, not a downturn; this may sound like semantics but it is important.
