Yep. The only thing worse than growing old is not being around to grow old. My wife won't let me call myself old because she thinks it's bad for me to think that way, but we both know the truth.

There is a young man from another department Bland has been working fairly closely with for the past month or so who continuously referred to him as "sir", evidently out of awed (or odd, as the case may be) deference to bland's tremendous personal dignity and sheer gravitas. It was jarring nevertheless. Finally bland broke down and said: "Please, there's no reason to call bland 'sir'. You can refer to him by his name: Marvellous. Or 'Mr. Marvellous', if you prefer." The young man paused reflectively for a moment and then asked: "Wouldn't just 'bland' be okay, sir?"
