Total fairness to all is probably impossible.

But I think giving complete choice to one parent when the other has no choice at all is the least fair outcome, at least as far as the parents are concerned. I don't advocate a father being able to prohibit the mother from getting an abortion if she wants one. But I do advocate a father being able to functionally abort -- to voluntarily disown parentage and let the mother decide whether she wants to bear the child without the father to assist, or wants to abort.

Any outcome will be harsh to one parent, and often to the child. Question is what outcome is the least harsh to the greatest number?
