I think men should be able to get the financial equivalent of an abortion, but I don't see an easy way to implement it. It wouldn't be that hard, in most cases. On the edges it might get tricky, but in the main: Any unmarried woman (or married but separated woman) who got pregnant would have to notify the father, or all men who might be the father, within, say, 14 days of finding that she was pregnant. The father (or each possible father) would then have 10 days to file a declaration stating that he disavowed any interest in or responsibility for the child. The mother then could decide to bear or not bear the child, knowing that if she bore it any man disavowing parentage would a) have no rights ever to establish parentage or see the child or have anything to do with the child, and b) have no financial obligation for the child. If she gave birth, the mother would have the absolute right to decide whether to keep the child, have it legally adopted by another man with her, or give it up for adoption, all without having to worry about consent of the biological father. The main problem would come with women who ignored the possibility of pregnancy despite obvious signs (missing periods) and waited to find out she was pregnant until it was too late to get a safe and legal abortion, though that period is not extended so far that may not be a significant issue. (I know one person who gave birth and up until the birth process started had convinced herself that she had miscarried and wasn't pregnant. She was a student in a boarding school I taught at and gave birth in the bathroom of the girls dorm. But that was, thankfully, an exeption. Two other students found her there and assisted in the birth and kept the mother from killing the baby. The baby was fine and was cared for by its grandmother while the mother finished school. I don't know what happened after that, but as far as I knew it all worked out. But that was an exception.)
