On the front page of the Globe & Mail, Canada's national newspaper, was an item about Toronto, Canada's largest city, losing $700,000. Apparently, the city fathers had laid off the only person who knows how to get the computer to send out the invoices for dog tags, and without the bills going out, the money doesn't come in.

So, the city saves $50,000 in salary and reduces incoming fees by $700,000, making the savings from letting the computer guy go a negative $650,000.

Looks like there's opportunity for SI management in city administration: They've demonstrated that they have The Right Stuff!

Cheers, PW.
