It is an opinion whether the body we see is moving or not. It is an opinion whether the person is breathing or not, whether we can observe his blood circulating or not. Every sign of death we think we observe is an opinion. Therefore whether he is dead is an opinion.

All observations are opinions.

I'm not sure this observation, made somewhat casually a number of posts ago, is worth the energy it has stimulated. It is important to theoretical philosophy; much less so to the practical aspect of living our daily lives. I ate dinner tonight; that I did so may is indeed merely my opinion, but it's a good enough opinion for me to go to sleep happily believing I am replete from a delightful Valentine's Day repast.

Of course it's only an opinion that I'm happy, but it's an opinion I'm happy to hold..

YYB posted this on her Christian Values thread a few days ago and I thought I'd bring it here. The link leads to an interesting test of religious beliefs:

What kind of Christian are you? I am a Chrisrian too, although marginally so it seems.

I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours.

The following "diagnostic" quiz will attempt to pigeonhole you, reducing
you from a complex, nuanced person to a simple caricature. We
obviously don't pretend that this is scientific, and, to be honest, part of
the goal is to have some fun.

But there is a serious point here, too: One's approach to the Bible
reveals a great deal about one's approach to religion generally. More so
than denomination, one's attitude about who Jesus was and what the
Bible is can define an individual's spiritual type.

So we hope that in addition to being interesting, this quiz will help you
learn something about yourself. At the end of the quiz, we'll offer you the
opportunity to complain about the quiz to others who have scored
similarly.
