When I was much younger, I had thick, long hair and a middling- long beard. It worked pretty well as a "Jesus look". In fact, two different people who had been to the cathedral in Vienna told me that there was a painting of Christ on the ceiling that looked like me. Of course, now that my hair is thinning, I have to keep it short, so the effect would, as you say, be more like a hermit or biker........
