Please don't perpetuate that myth by maintaining something like Gary supposedly getting paid to post bullish information on CSCO. It does no one a service.

Business Week reports this week that a "Tokyo Joe" just reached a tentative settlement of fraud charges with the SEC, to the tune of $750,000. The Commission claims this guy was taking gifts from companies for promoting their stock on chat rooms and running a classic "pump and dump" operation. So, yes, it is possible that some posters are getting paid.

But, I agree with you that large, well-known companies like CSCO would be unlikely to be involved in stuff like this. It's much more likely to occur with boiler-room type junk.
