my best financial advice ever to my daughter and her then boyfriend was to back off San Francisco real estate last summer. They were involved in a weekend game of looking at houses in the city, bidding over the ask and constantly losing to someone willing to pay 20% or even more over the asking price. They are young (under 30) and couldn't imagine that the dot.com party could end and were talking about this hovel or that hovel being a bargain at 800k. What a difference 9 months makes: They are very lucky to have a leases in Mill Valley at this point that are affordable now that their jobs have lost their luster.

I'm in select money markets and FSESX only right now. Wish I had gone totally to cash. Sharon
