Hi Rich, Volume in trading of the index does matter for liquidity purposes. If volume is low you may not be able to get someone on the other end of the trade. Low volume may mean you have bigger gaps between trade prices making the stock less liquid.

Another point that low volume can contribute to was brought home to me yesterday. The price for IBB reached my GTC limit buy price, but my shares weren't purchased. I am not clear on where the problem was. I was told that less than round lots sometimes get lost over at the AMEX. I had to call my broker this AM and have them check on why the order was not filled. They called back and said that when they checked with the AMEX they were told it was a screw up so they filled it this AM at the lower price IBB closed at yesterday.
