Cool.....yes, rock climbing is very healthy...will use muscles you never knew you had, as well as strengthening the mind, as it is one of the most challenging things a person can do....and if done properly, it's safer then getting in your car and driving to work.

OK, I'll let you know when a casual day is planned.....my wife is very good. She teaches a class here at the local college. Most of the time, unless she is teaching the class, she is doing pretty hardcore stuff...not for beginners....but many times we have friends that are just getting started or want to, and we plan "easy days"...nothing but top roping and easy basics......so, when we have an easy day pop up, I will suggest to the wife we head your way....could be fairly spur of the moment though...but will try and have some lead time for ya......Whats your son like? Athletic...what kind of "build" does he have...short and fat...long and wirey?? It really doesnt matter, it will just dictate the type of climber....some just use raw power, others rely more on technique and the qualaties your body lets you get away with...for instance...my wife is very short....darryl, our friend and expert climber ( in his 50's too I believe ) is very long and thin.....on a climb, they both will attack it in different ways. darryl may get away with less moves, but at the same time that doesnt mean it's easier or harder....my wife, being she is so small and tiny can do things a tall guy only dreams about...so there are advantages and disadvantages to each type of Body.......Gotta run
