That's ALMOST half the price the pusillanimous VSEA CEO dumped at when he made his millions. To hell with that silly stock buy back program, I'd rather know what Aurelio does about the fascist Varian SLAPP lawsuit, wouldn't you?

Someone is FINALLY noticing VSEA. Once this sector starts back up, VSEA should lead the way, since it is not priced expensively, yet has earnings leverage behind it.

Varian Semiconductor Names Alan P. Sheng to New Vice President of Engineering Position
GLOUCESTER, MA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 2001--Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSEA - news) today announced the appointment of Alan P. Sheng, Ph.D., to the newly created senior management position of vice president of engineering. He will report directly to Ernest L. Godshalk, president and chief operating officer.

Sheng joins Varian Semiconductor after 14 years with Rockwell/Goss Graphic Systems, most recently as chief technology officer and senior vice president of engineering. Previously, Sheng had been a researcher for 9 years at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he worked on electronic switching systems software. He also served as a research physicist at the California Institute of Technology and at Rutgers University.

Godshalk welcomed Sheng to his new post at Varian Semiconductor, noting, ``Al brings the right combination of business and leadership skills necessary to advance our successful research and development program. With his extensive background in software development and advanced materials science, we expect to gain from his innovative programs and further the technology leadership position of our VIISta single wafer platform. This common platform of ion implantation equipment is especially valuable with the transition to 300mm production and next generation microprocessor design.''

Sheng holds a doctor of philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he specialized in high-energy physics. He has also earned an executive masters degree in business administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor of arts degree in physics from the University of California at Berkley.
