LWP people mostly just wanted to be left alone, which
proved to be way too much for the RWET crowd to handle.

I think it was a case of some people just happening to pass by the Porch and overhear some conversation and couldn't help mumbling a little too loudly their opposition or displeasure at either the conservation or the fact they had no porch.;)
