Ten,

AMD is not in a position to alienate their chipset suppliers. Even Intel has had their rear saved by VIA a couple of times recently.

Remember when Cyrix went into competition with Gateway? They created the Cyrix market brand, and had a marketing campaign based on making fun of cows.

It was a huge success for Cyrix.

Tench: Correction. That would make AMD less dependent on their chipset suppliers. Wouldn't it?

That reminds me... I read a short report recently, that AMD's DDC (Dresden Design Center) is designing (oddly enough) a new southbridge for the Hammer series. There was absolutely no mention of any northbridge type thing.

Anyone know anything about what goes on at the DDC?
