<The era of big drivers on CPUs for minimal performance gains will likely end soon>

When is soon? Certainly it is a possibility by 2010 when we can get eight hammers on chip, but how soon before will it catch on? They problem with 10MPs is not building them, but re-training the mindset of 1,000,000 developing programmers and changing the
customer expectations on which direction to expect future capabilities. This will take time.

Intel could probably have put 3 Piii cores on a die the size of the P4, if they came up with a nice shared L2 cache. But then, they wouldn't have that NetBurst(TM) technology to flog.

Somewhat related, did you ever hear any scuttlebutt on what the famous "Jackson Technology" actually was?

If true, how do you think AMD should react to this fact? How do you think they will react to it?

Scumbria, <You can put about 10 embedded cores on the same size die as an Athlon, and get much higher performance.>

Not many desktop applications out there can be divided into ten or more separate but simultaneous execution streams.
