This is pathetic. Man, this guy must be a low-IQ.

You are very negative.

Stage 1 - recognise the search string contains three separate entities. Requires searching of real-world databases to find words often used in association.

Stage 2 - construct more definitive searches for the entities. requires real-world input pulled from user and product knowledgebases. What is jacket size of user. How many chocolates do they usually buy. What is the name of the latest Pearl Jam CD.

Stage 3 - search and categorize. If entity is a commodity item then use price as primary key, remembering to check delivery charges etc, but incorporate company reliability data and previous experience of delivery times from that company.

Yes, it is hard to visualize how we can write expert systems with enough flexibility to handle ad-hoc queries. I suspect that we will not write the systems, we will instead produce systems that can be educated. You will have to talk to your system for some time before it knows you well enough to have learned your jacket size. We will have to develop systems that people enjoy talking to, so that this discovery process happens painlessly.

I agree with the guy and I doubt he is as dumb as you suggest.
