Sao Paulo, Feb. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. denied plans to open a chip manufacturing plant in Brazil, saying the company's investments in the country for now will be focused in the distribution of its products.
AMD, Intel Corp.'s top rival in the market for computer processors, denied reports in Brazilian newspapers that said it was going to announce today plans to build the factory. Hector Ruiz, AMD's president and chief operating officer, said that a meeting with Brazilian government officials yesterday was to discuss a potential testing plant for the company's products.

''Right now, our current focus in the Latin American region is how we can address the testing and distribution of our products,'' Ruiz said. ''At this stage of the discussions we are studying and have not committed to anything yet.''
AMD shares rose $1.23, or 4.9 percent, to $26.18.
