Well said Katherine! And many American political consevatives suffer from this way of thinking. I never understood why many conservatives lack compassion. Willcousa, a conservative, alluded to this in a prior post. But calling yourself a compassionate conservative as Bush does, is not enough. That Star Trek/Marxian vision I alluded to should be that of liberals and conservatives alike. The means to those ends are what should be in dispute, not the end itself. And those that believe that their success is relative to the hardship of others, i truly pity . Mike

The other problem is trying to achieve plenty in a socialist economic system. In the future people will know that the best economy is the freeest economy. They will know that the best economy produces the most for everyone.
