Say, thirty weeks? 88% of abortions are at 12 weeks or earlier, and that proportion would probably be higher if education and availability were better. In 1992, there were 320 abortions in the United States after 26 weeks gestation, out of 1.5 million total. At that stage, it's a rare procedure, not widely available and not undertaken lightly.

If there was any indication that the anti-abortion people were interested in an earlier gestational cutoff for abortions, and not a total ban, compromise might be possible. I don't see any such indication.
