Steve look at NT statement: Partially offsetting the impact of
the U.S. market slowdown is the continued solid growth we are seeing in Europe and in the Asia Pacific and Latin America
regions.''

The same story from NT,CSCO and ALA .
Europe strong,Asia even stronger and S.America on track.
Those regions are behind US 18 + months.
Today Italy GDP jumped above expactation!!!
ALA generates 50% revenue from Europe, 25% from US ann the rest mainly from Asia.
In US they are mainly in ATM siwtching+ DSL access with
Verizon, SBC , BEll Canada. Recently ALA got Sprint deal (optics and general networking) and NT did not want to comment on Q4 CC re:Sprint.
ALA said three weeks ago that couple US terrestrial optical deals will be announced in the near future.
May be Ciena(the upgraded they forecast today) and ALA are part of reasons for NT troubles.

Time will tell

Steve based on NT comments technology which completes
network like DWDM metro or DSL are now in play, no long haul
terrestrial.(US market)
This would explain why DWDM metro player like Ciena upgraded its forecast today, and why ALA was so positive on DSL deployment in US.
NT also suffer from lack of capital for so call new carriers
which will get $ in second half of 2001 ( % rates effect).
ALA has little exposure to US terrestrial and of course no
exposure to voice switching ( Lucent and Nortel dominates US market )
