Doubt it, if it is Earlie. He is pretty dumb from all those sticks and pucks to the head, but still can recognize light. -vbg-

You box a short by getting an equal long. So you don't have to be subject to the uptick rules and standing in the line to sell, if you decide to go short again. Just sell the boxing long position. Can be very important, especially if it is a short restricted stock, but ties up more capital the way most brokerages calculate it. A lot more.

It means that one takes on a long position to counter the short position rather than just clearing the short. To "unbox", one merely sells the long position. Recall the "downtick" rule and you will understand why this is a good strategy.
