I just finished Irvine Sprague's "Bailout: An Insider's Account of Bank Failures and Rescues". He was FDIC chairman/board member during the first 4 major bailouts, including the controversial Continental Illinois situation in 1984. After reading the excellent prose of James Grant and Michael Lewis, I've been spoiled, and I found this book fairly boring. It was interesting, though, since I was not around when these bailouts were being performed and publicly debated. Next up on my docket is Vera Smith's "The Rationale of Central Banking".
