This article was discussed on Yahoo when it came out. This topic has also been discussed on Silicon Investor many times since ENT Journal published the study. One additional point that wasn't mentioned on Yahoo is that the results of the study published in ENT have already been repeated in two previous studies, one of which was slated to be published in American Journal of Infection Control before being withdrawn for reasons that have been discussed ad naseum. Here are the posts on Yahoo that are relevant to the article that you posted.

Regarding last year's fourth quarter earnings...Gum Tech preannounced their earnings on Feb 1, 2000, but they didn't file their annual report with the full earnings report and financial statements until March 30, 2000. Of course some shorts will put a negative spin on this by questioning why they didn't preannounce this year, and saying that Gum Tech only preannounced last year because they had a profit. In reality, I believe that they preannounced last year because the stock had been rallying steadily, and they wanted to get some basic news on earnings out as quickly as possible so people wouldn't speculate for another two months while they finished writing the annual report and auditing the results. Since the stock has been more stable recently, they really have no reason to preannounce the results. Additionally, I don't think anyone is expecting a profit in the fourth quarter of 2001; hence, I think a loss is already discounted and that the stock will rally from the current ridiculously cheap market cap as the market begins to discount sales of dental gum to P&G, nicotine gum to the joint venture with Swedish Match, and a potential partnership for Gel Tech.
