Couple of posts from Ciena thread seem to support this theory

Is Ciena a big customer of JDSU/SDLI?

Of note, I think I recall management from JDSU and SDLI saying they don't make any parts (and have no exposure) to SONET gear. Can anyone confirm that?

You are absolutely right. The management of both companies have said many times they have zero exposure to the SONET market.

I'm trying to access NT's replay, but so far there's been excessive usage and I'm told to try again later. Maybe when the east coast is sound asleep. . .

My understanding is that carriers are transitioning from SONET and other old circuit switching technologies (all of which Nortel sells) and into newer technologies such as DWDM, which Ciena dominates.

Thus, that could explain why Nortel is warning, while Ciena is celebrating.

Yes, that is what I remember JDSU management saying in a past conference call in your response to a question. No Sonet exposure.
