>>10 customers? Which 10? Makes a big difference on who they are.<<

Broadwing, McLeod, Genuity and Level 3. The remaining six are unannounced. That was probably a rhetorical question...but what the heck...<g>

Ken,

I know this is hard to take as you have been a major proponent of NT, but try to see where I have made the connection here.

A. NT has warned that a slowdown in its long-haul optical equipment area (SONET) and its legacy circuit switching stuff are responsible. This is the company's own statement.

B. CIEN says that its long-haul DWDM switches (Core Director) are replacing SONET equipment and it makes the observation that while NT is a fierce competitor, its equipment is tied to SONET. There was a follow on article at Light Reading that also pointed out that NT doesn't really have a viable DWDM solution.

Don't you think the above 2 points are powerful evidence? Also, the 10 customers Nettles was talking about occurred in the previous quarter. Who knows how many are following them in the current one? These would be the ones that caused NT to warn and CIEN to guide upward.

Again, I am not taunting anyone here, just trying to make some sense out of this situation. Furthermore, I am a software developer who has a decent general idea about how all this stuff works, but not a hardware engineer's understanding.
