We are in period of history that has been the ultimate of obsolete in tech. One could say that the future far outpaced the past. Was it planned, no, as the future isn't though in it continuation, is birth of obsolete.

Then at some point you are forced to buy the new version even if you like the older version better just so you can read files that are sent to you. Perhaps this side effect isn't intended or planned, but a case of unplanned obsolescence.
