Everything is developing according to the plans. There is only a bunch of journalists that hear the music but have no clue where the band is playing. Whenever they think they find the "truth" they publish something here and there. But they are only scratching the surface.

There is nothing wrong with the plans to have networks built according to the Universal Mobile Telecommunication Standard.

Keep in mind the following:
Te noise you hear are just players jockeying for positions. The banks need to show how credit unworthy the mobile operators to charge higher spreads above the LIBOR. Mobile operators are scared to tell the truth behind UMTS since this would squeeze the pee out of fixed line operators all over the planet.

Fixed Line operators, the France Telecom's and British Telecom's of this world want to replenish they coffers with inflated flotation of mobile assets. And they want to do so to keep throwing a life line to their fixed line operations.

Mobile vendors, oh the vendors, let me just make an analogy to make it more clear.

Suppose Boeing to sell 747's had also to go into the catering business. Yes, they would have a cook specialised in pastries working with the engineers design air frame. They would also have to have a control in how Stewardesses would wear on board. That's exactly what the ERICY's and NOK's of this world are doing right now. Once this is sorted out -after bleeding some money, they will reassert themselves.

Jim re: European wireless infrastructure.
May be UK, Germany ect ( in France cost od license was very low) should think twice and return big portion of the money to carriers , otherwise they will never see tax revenue from
those network).
This would fixed carriers problems.
