Joe,

If AMD designs and implements memory controller in the northbridge, AMD
will not have to design a standalone Northbridge, neither will Via, Ali, Sis, Micron, Nvdia, API, Serverworks or anyone else.

Personally, I would like to see the north bridge integrated with GPU and level 3 cache. I think Nvidia will shock this market in a couple of months when they announce their integrated chipsets. They could become the leading chipset company in a very short period of time.

Pravin.

Joe,

<integrated DRAM controller >

We are largely in agreement here. I think the cost benefits are even larger than what you suggest. Without a northbridge, motherboards will require much less engineering effort and will be more closer to commodities than they are today. I wouldn't be surprised to see motherboard prices going all the way to $50.
