"Actually, Humphrey was a Cold War liberal, and McGovern had been associated with the Henry Wallace bid for the presidency, which was a Popular Front campaign embracing Communists, and tending to take the Soviet position in emerging conflicts."

You're right that McGovern supported Henry Wallace for President in 1948 when he was a professor at Northwestern (good memory!!),although McGovern himself certainly was never anything but a liberal (despite there being communists supporting Wallace).

"Although McGovern moved right slightly, he still represented a more radical agenda than Humphrey had ever espoused....... " I don't disagree with that, but Humphrey--who was on the left-wing of the party during the 50s and 60s, certainly wasn't there in the 70s, so it seems accurate to say he moved right, although I suppose a case could be made that he stayed the same and the party moved left--I guess it depend on your perspective...
